Ephesians 2:10 ~ “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
What was Paul alluding to in Romans 12 and why did this study hit differently in spirit and with wisdom?
Today the spirit of God truly opened a floodgate of memories of sermons, I have heard that always preached “Romans 12:1-2 but never expounded on what Paul was saying…. entirely.” This verse and beginning chapter of Romans 12 seems to always want to hit the believer in reference to sex or fleshly indulgences, but that isn’t the point at all, or if I may say, entirely?
So, this is what I understood in reference to Romans 12. By the discipline of the Body and discipline of the spiritual gift this becomes our “reasonable service ~ spiritual worship” that rises unto God from our good, acceptable, and perfect foundation we are building upon by following Christ. Keep that word following close for the rest of this read.
We are called also in the book of Romans 12 to be sober minded in walking out our discipline and our spiritual worship. “Don’t think we’ve mastered our flesh because of any titles, positions or previous learning while working the fields”, (Philippians 3:7-11). We are called, to grow and bless God and others with the spiritual gift, but soberly. We are called to work thoughtfully and again sober about one’s own business (spiritual gift, spiritual worship), with the measure of faith God has given.
Let us stop trying to outdo one another,
Stop sizing each other up,
Be kind to one another.
Begin to act as if we know nothing, it is time, for Christ’s sake to throw ourselves off!
We are told, let us stop being preoccupied by other people’s business like Martha, and go sit at the feet of Jesus and learn from Him! (Luke 10:38-42). Let us stop putting hands/daydreaming about plows we lack faith in handling, (Romans 12:6).
We cannot outshine one another in God’s work or kingdom call, for if that is our heart in working the Lords fields, then we’ve already corrupted His vision and distorted what He gave it to us for, (Galatians 5:26), (Proverbs 14:30).
Let us return to the basics then, shall we? Let’s pretend since we all have been good at mastering this lately, let’s pretend we just confessed Christ, let’s say for learning and growth’s sake (again?), unto transformation we’ve never heard of Jesus before and know nothing of His love, character, or personality.
If we would humble ourselves and put Jesus on for the remainder of our walk here on earth, and become pliable, the Lord can begin restoring and correcting our hearts. Here is where we let Jesus actually come into our spiritual house, the house He purchased with His Blood, His grace and His exuberant riches in glory.
Jesus wants to move furniture around.
The Lord desires to take all that we have laid up in corners for ourselves and expose it. Don’t fret, He is a gentle and kind spirit, He will work from the confinements of our hearts.
Come now and take off your hair and makeup that you purchased with His goodness.
Come and take off the bling, and the upgrades! Come now, throw off your gossiping, haughty looks, and backbiting!
Come, press in even further and throw off your hypocrisy and christian acting skills, traditions, rituals and consents!
Come now, come learn from our Savior and be transformed into His “True image and His True likeness!” The light that we strut around declaring that He gave us is to be set upon a table for His glory for all to see and be drawn to Him, not us! (Matthew 4:19).
When we become selective about who gets to see the light that we keep declaring is from Him, we set ourselves higher than the table He set us upon.
Be generous with His light, be cheerful givers of His light, as He has cheerfully given it to us.
Until Next Time Beloved, Read the Word to Know Him!
